Life through a lens

Chorley Photographic Society, founded in 1896, has a long history of producing prints.

Now members of the public can see the life behind the lens they capture in its annual print exhibition.

Member Glyn Davies, whose passionate about photography, said: “The exhibition is something we hold every year.

“It’s an exhibition of the best prints from our annual competition which is drawn from prints taken by our members from throughout the year.

“The pictures that will be on display will be of a range of different things.

“There’s no set theme. So visitors can expect to see things like wildlife shots, landscapes, portraits and more.

“One of the prints last year was a man in bowler hat wearing a tutu carrying an umbrella, more akin to the artist Salvador Dali.

“That’s the beauty of photography, some prints look like paintings.

“Also photos are not necessarily exact replicas but what the photographer sees.”

Organisers were especially pleased to have secured the picturesque Grade 1 listed Astley Hall in Chorley as what they say is the “perfect” venue for the event.

The Chorley Photographic Society’s Annual Exhibition takes place at the hall from Saturday, May 31 to Sunday, June 29.
