Lemonheads Evan to play solo show in city

Lemonheads star Evan Dando has announced a solo show at Preston’s 53 Degrees – his first ever visit to the venue.

The US singer, who founded the alternative rock outfit, best known for their cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Mrs Robinson, arrives at the Brook Street club on Thursday June 27.

The star will perform an intimate gig in 53 Degrees upstairs club venue which is expected to sell out.

The Lemonhead’s take on Mrs. Robinson, which featured in hit movie Wayne’s World, became one of MTV’s most played videos, and boosted sales of the album, It’s a Shame About Ray.

The band first emerged in the late 1980s from the burgeoning American college rock and grunge scene which also saw the birth of bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden.

They also achieved success w Even from the early days, however, The Lemonheads were always musically adventurous, adding melodic 60s grooves and even country influences into the mix.

These days, The Lemonheads still tour but Dando is the only original member.

He had a solo Top 30 hit with the album, Baby, I’m Bored, in 2000.

Intimate acoustic shows such as this give the star an opportunity to play fan favourites from his solo work.

But they are also packed with Lemonheads tunes, pared down into new and specially arranged acoustic versions – making this a perfect show to enjoy on a beautiful summer evening for the legion of cult followers Dando attracts wherever he plays.
