Leading tenor to perform with Morecambe’s light music orchestra
A leading Argentinian tenor will sing with Morecambe’s light music orchestra later this month.
Roberto Garcia Lopez will join the Promenade Concert Orchestra and its Sunshine Award winning conductor Howard Rogerson at the Platform on Sunday, January 25.
The orchestra will kick off its 2015 programme with its traditional New Year Viennese Concert and Lopez will sing six arias from Lehar’s operettas.
They will include ‘Girls Were Made to Love and Kiss’ and ‘You Are My Heart’s Delight’.
The Turning Point Theatre Arts of Lancaster dancers, under the direction of Gail Johnstone, will also perform.
The soprano, Soraya Mafi, who was to have sung at the concert, is unavailable as she is working in Paris throughout January and February at the Bastille Opera House.
The show will include music from Vienna and the Strauss family including Suppe’s ‘Jolly Robbers’ overture, waltzes by Johann Strauss Senior’s son’s Johann and Josef, along with a waltz and Champagne March by the ‘Strauss of the North’ Danish composer, Christian Lumbye, a ‘Vision’ waltz by Waldteufel and a ‘Sleigh Ride’ by Bradford-born Frederic Delius, the Blue Danube waltz and the audience favourite, the Radetzky March to end the concert.
The Promenade Concert Orchestra is now in its eighth year.
Founder and musical director Howard Rogerson was honoured for his work with the orchestra at last year’s Visitor Sunshine Awards at the Midland Hotel.
Tickets cost £14 or £12 concessions and £6 for children. Buy from Morecambe Visitor Information Centre at the Platform or call 01524 582803.
