Besides his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra regulars, like drummer Gilson Lavis and singers Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall, Jools’ special guest this year is Fine Young Cannibals singer, Roland Gift.

Holland’s BBC2 music show has now broadcast more than 250 programmes but there is little to compare with his 20-piece big band’s live performance. Box office: 0844 844 7714 or www.prestonguildhall.com

A new generation of dancers bring their talent to the stage in Lancaster next week.

The fifth Lancashire Youth Dance Festival is at The Dukes on Friday and Saturday, giving hundreds of talented young dancers the chance to perform in a professional venue.

The two-day festival, organised by Ludus Dance and The Dukes, boasts many festival workshops – including one led by Debbie Milner’s all-male company Edge FWD – and two evenings of new dance performances.

Dance groups aged 11 to 19 will showcase their routines, working with freelance dance artist Helen Gould. Ludus artistic producer Hannah Robertshaw said: “Watching talented young dancers is so exciting. It’s raw energy and commitment and the unleashed potential of future brilliance.”
