Jamming into the summer

The students have organised their own Summer Jam Festival, as part of their coursework, which takes place both at the college’s St Vincent’s Road campus and at the New Continental pub, in Preston.

Performing will be a host of both bands and solo artists, all of whom are students on the college’s extended diploma in music course.

Both first and second years will show off their skills during the day on three stages on campus, from 10am to 3.30pm.

The Glasshouse stage, in the Atrium, hosts a day long open mic session while bands and singer/songwriters play on the main stage in the college’s purpose built theatre space while DJs and dance acts perform on the Tripbox stage in the Live Room studio.

At night, the action moves to Preston’s New Continental where the second year students have handpicked a selection of the festival’s best performers.

They booked the venue, organised the promotion, put together the line up and will also do the sound on the night - again to be marked as part of their course. Appearing will be singers J Carr and Jack Lynch alongside bands including The Denial Twist, Little Icarus, Foreign Policy, Savage Jaw and Mechanical Creep. Student Hannah Greatorix, singer of Little Icarus, who are playing only their second full gig, said: “We are really excited.”
