Icon’s son in exclusive show

John Lee Hooker Jnr was born in Detroit in 1952 into a 
legendary blues tradition – and he has clearly inherited the family gift.

His 2004 debut album, Blues with a Vengeance, was nominated for a Grammy, while his third album, All Odds Against Me, which came out in 2008, saw him back at the Grammys with another nomination, this time for Best Traditional Blues CD.

His first public performance was on Detroit’s WJBK radio aged just eight and he toured with his father throughout his teens.

He grew up surrounded by blues greats such as Jimmie Reed, Washboard Willie and Boogie Woogie Red, little Hooker Jr and played venues such as Detroit’s, Fox Theatre and 
other upscale Motown clubs in the shadow of his father. By 18, he was recording with his 
father, most notably on his Live at Soledad Prison record.

With a much more 
contemporary style than his 
father, he is already credited with helping to move the genre into a whole new era.

He comes to Clitheroe Grand tonight on tour for his brilliant new album, That’s What The Blues Is All About.

He is playing only four UK dates in total – and this show is his only one in the North West.

The following night, he plays a final English show at London’s 100 Club before flying off to Tel Aviv to continue the tour at the Zappa Club.
