The great outdoors celebrated for week

A programme of events to mark Love Parks Week gets underway at Memorial Park, Fleetwood, tomorrow.

An outdoor theatre performance of The BFG will be presented by the Gambolling Arena Theatre Company at 11.30am and 2pm, with spectators invited to bring a picnic too.

Also on Saturday, at Wyre Estuary Country Park, from 10am until noon, there is a squirrel watch group for children aged eight to 14 with nature walks, wildlife surveys, practical work and lots of fun. Join in for £1 per child.

Next weekend, at Memorial Park on Saturday, July 21 and the country park on Sunday, July 22, both 11am to 3pm, children can take part in Xplorer orienteering. Using a simple map to find markers around the park while picking up some fun nature facts.

Next Sunday will also be the country park’s open day from 11am to 4pm, with displays including bee keeping and flyball, plus play areas to explore. The same day, from noon until 3pm, there will be a mosaic garden art community workshop at Memorial Park, and a 1pm to 3pm butterfly hunt.

Love Parks Week takes place every year with the aim of encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy their local park.
