Visitors to the popular reserve will be able to take part in Worm Charming Event, pitting their wits against subterranean invertebrates and their rival charmers.

There will be two sessions on the day, the first from 10am until noon, the second from 1pm to 3pm.

The event is free, so simply collect a worm charming pack from the Activity Room then head out on the reserve to charm as many worms as you can out of the ground! Your harvest will be weighed, counted and measured with prizes going to the champion charmers.

A spokesman for the reserve said: “There’s no need to book, just come along.

“Come dressed for the weather – we advise you to wear wellies – and you might want to read up on worm charming techniques before you come along to give you some tips.

“There is lots available on the internet, but please note – we will not allow any chemicals to be used on the reserve!”

Car parking charges will apply. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
