Get t’ticket in t’hand for T’Pau

T’Pau burst on to the music scene in 1987 when hit single Heart & Soul went Top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic.

Taken from debut album Bridge Of Spies, its innovative use of a rap verse by a white female vocalist introduced the world to the distinctive lead vocals of Carol Decker.

Heart & Soul led to a meteoric rise in T’Pau’s fortunes both at home and in the USA, where the track stayed on the US Billboard chart for six months.

After a UK arena tour supporting Bryan Adams, the band unleashed classic ballad, and signature tune China In Your Hand.

Nobody could have predicted the enormous impact of China, which stayed at No 1 for five weeks, the longest serving No 1 of the year.

Bridge Of Spies, meanwhile, was occupying the number 1 album slot.

This high point in the band’s career saw T’Pau keep George Harrison from number 1 in the singles chart, and Paul McCartney off the top spot in the Top 40 albums.

Although the original band split in 1991, Carol began touring as T’Pau again in 1997, recording new album Red, and performing a very special version of China In Your Hand with the BBC Concert Orchestra in a televised tribute to Princess Diana.

Carol continues to perform live in concert, delighting huge crowds with classic hits and new material.
