Folk to the Floor from the Emerald Isle

The four-piece vocal and instrumental group based in Clitheroe are firmly rooted in the traditional music and songs of Ireland, but also take influences from Lancashire and Scotland. The band features Steven Johnston on uilleann pipes, Martin Baptie on fiddle, Richard Moss on guitar and vocals and Daniel Burke on tenor banjo.

This year has seen the release of the band’s debut album “Raise The Roof” and they have a number of appearances to their credit, including at the BIG Whistle, Cloudspotting and Fylde folk festivals.

Drop The Floor formed in 2012 and were brought together by a shared love of traditional – particularly Irish – music.

Steven and Dan met in the mid-1980s. Martin moved to Clitheroe from his native Scotland in 2002 and was introduced to Dan and Steven after his wife began working at Dan’s stained glass studio.

A fine fiddle player, he soon became a regular of the local sessions.

Richard came on board during a St Patrick’s Day music session at a hotel.

The four got together for a musicians’ trip to Ireland and the band returned ready to roll.

They will be performing at the Royal British Legion Club in Towneley Road next Wednesday, September 16, tickets £5, start time 8.30pm.
