Bruce Jones gives press a run for their money

Blackpool's bracing breezes helped Bruce Jones give the press a run for their money when he went jogging on the prom with a local pal.

The resort looks like it’s proved just the tonic for actor Bruce, who played Coronation Street’s Les Battersby before being axed from the show in 2007.

With an online campaign calling for the return of the popular character to the cobbles, Bruce was out to keep his training routine on track with the help of showbiz pal Liam Halewood.

Bruce has been starring at North Pier’s Easter panto, Jack and the Beanstalk, as Fleshcreep.

He recently ran into friends in the cast and on the production crew when Coronation Street filmed some key story lines locally for broadcast in May.

To help keep in shape after his highly publicised battle with booze, Bruce called on resort reality TV producer Liam for moral support.

Resort reality TV star Liam, who helps organise the Blackpool Pride festival, and is filming an ‘alternative’ reality show in Blackpool in a bid to project a more positive image of the resort, explains: “I’ve got a few celebrity friends and Bruce is one of them.

“It can’t be easy for him to go for a run because people recognise him all the time. He asked if I would come out too.”

Liam, who’s also helping scout for X Factor talent after his success on the show last year, adds: “He knows I’m in training myself.

“I’ve lost two stone since joining Slimming World in just 11 weeks and am back at the gym and running to get myself into better shape. It’s always nice to run with someone else, and it’s good to see Bruce back on track. It would be great to see him back on the Street.”

Liam is also hoping Bruce will make time to attend a charity night at Blackpool Catholic Club on April 28 in memory of a local entertainer Paul Crawford, who lost his life to cancer two years ago.

He says: “All the entertainers are doing the event for free and the club is giving us the room too. It shows how well thought of Paul was.”
