Easter for free or cheap

Museums, attractions and more across Lancashire are hosting events to keep youngsters occupied.

At the Harris Museum in Preston city centre, there are events all week, including Arty Explorers, at noon today, and Hands On History: Egg-rolling on Saturday, 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Both events are free and for five to 12 year olds only.

Martin Mere Nature Reserve at Burscough holds its annual duck race on Sunday, April 19, at 3pm, and children will be able to paint and personalise their own ducks to take part.

From now until race day, youngsters can design their own ducks between 11am and 4pm for £2.50.

Ducks can be bought on the day and entered into the race for £2. A Giant Duck Hunt, above, will take place on the grounds every day throughout the holidays.

There is a charge of 50p to enter and all children who take part will be awarded with prizes.

Youngsters can also go pond dipping at the pond house, from 11am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3pm, each day.

Brockholes Nature Reserve has a schedule of Easter- themed craft activities, including bonnet making, clay modelling and creative workshops.

Events at the reserve in Preston will take place all week with bookings being essential for some. For more information call 01772 872 000.

Blackpool’s Opera House and Winter Gardens, are hosting a Mad Hatters Tea Party to celebrate Easter, including an Easter Egg and Easter Bonnet decorating competition and much more. Free admission, with stalls and refreshments raising funds for the Winter Gardens Trust.
