The classic film starring Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly tells the story of the ex-husband of a rich and beautiful socialite who tries to win her back on the eve of her wedding.

As befits the Hollywood theme there will be the chance to sing to the classic tunes of the era in the interval during the popular sing-a-long session, as well as the opportunity to get dressed up for the occasion.

The film, which is shown at 2pm, is a public screening so is open to everyone but has been specially programmed for people with dementia and their families. Some changes will be made to lighting and sound to ensure that a comfortable environment is created.

Research has shown that people with dementia and their relatives often struggle to find opportunities to socialise and worry that they won’t be welcome in public places.

The screening is part of Journeying Together, a partnership project between Age UK Lancashire and The Dukes and is supported by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. It is part of a national drive towards creating dementia friendly communities.

Angela Norris, Journeying Together project officer, said: “This is a real opportunity to get on your glad rags and enjoy the glamour and the glitz of the Hollywood era.”

In keeping with High Society, there’s also the chance to enjoy an afternoon tea before the film for an extra charge.

Tickets for the film are £4 including tea/coffee and a pastry.
