Do you know the Muffin Men were on last week?

Hailing from Liverpool, with Jumpy on guitar, Roddy on bass, Phil on keys and Rhino on drums, I was not sure what to expect from the Muffin Men, but as they completed their sound check they went straight into a note perfect take on Zappa instrumental ‘Eat That Question’ the scene was set!

Classic Zappa tracks followed one after another – ‘Easy Meat’,‘Brown Shoes Don’t Make It’, ‘I Am The Slime’.

All the guys do vocals but I was particularly impressed by ‘Rhino’ on drums showing the world how to ‘multi task’. He took the impressive lead vocal on ‘Village In The Sun’.

‘Trouble Everyday’ was just brilliant, they then went into ‘Cold Winter Gale’ followed by ‘City of Tiny Lights’. The complex rhythms of ‘Oh No’, worked well, even with no brass section, and ‘Black Napkins’ was superb with awesome guitar and drums.

A superb performance doing Zappa justice, and these guys are all great musicians in their own right.
