It’s the traditional beginnning of Christmas at Lancaster Castle.

The resident players of the historic monument, Demi Paradise Productions, return this week with their Christmas celebration, Deck The Hall.

It’s a festive mix of Yuletide entertainment led by the five musically talented actors and readers from Demi Paradise who join forces with acapella choir, Five in a Bar, for the evening.

Compiled and directed for the third year running by BBC Radio drama star Helen Longworth, who also stars in local singing group, Quay Change, the show takes place in the unbeatably atmospheric Shire Hall, amid walls lined with the colourful shields of the Castle Constables.

And making her Deck the Hall debut this year is actress Christine Mackie, who has starred in TV’s Downton Abbey and The Royal.

Producer Stephen Tomlim said: “Lancaster Castle’s resident professional theatre company Demi-paradise Productions have performed this evergreen and ever changing celebration of Christmas in words and music every year since 2000 in the run up to Christmas and have attracted a loyal and enthusiastic following as a result.”
