Dance legends Faithless get Lytham Festival bouncing

Straight from their recent appearance at the Ibiza 20 celebrations for BBC Radio 1 and ahead of their own 20th anniversary UK tour, Lytham may seem like an odd destination, but there is no doubt this growing festival is beginning to really get things right.

Supporting the anthemic dance legends were BBC Radio 1 DJ Danny Howard, as well as EDM royalty Pendulum.

Arriving too late to catch local lad Danny perform his set, we grabbed a beer and took to the green to watch Pendulum.

Since their split in 2012, Pendulum are now reduced to just the DJ skills of Paul “El Hornet” Harding and vocals of Ben “The Verse” Mount, yet this cut back team were still enough to shake Lytham Green and get the crowd bouncing.

A few key stage changes later, Faithless took to the stage, and with a wave of energy they blasted the crowd with an incredible intro transitioning swiftly into their 2007 chart hit God is a DJ.

Flowing between music styles and reworks of their best known tracks, the set plateaued as quickly as it lifted you, and featured so much of their back catalogue it was difficult to keep up.

Mass Destruction, God is a DJ and of course Insomnia all featured in a set that was filled with pace and energy.

That energy continued until the very end, when Faithless left us with one final track.

Audience participation ensued with Maxi Jazz commanding the crowd to shout ‘one’ during the chorus of Become One, bringing the gig to a climactic and frenetic end.

Age seems to have had little effect on Faithless who delivered what can only be described as an incredible performance.
