Collabro get festival off on the right note
Collabro: Lowther Pavilion
From the very first number (This is the moment) the four members of this group had their audience of loyal followers in the palm of their hands.
This intimate venue provided a chance for the boys to really connect with the theatregoers and allow them to see more of each of their own personalities.
Collabro have come a long way since they won the eighth series of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014.
They have taken over creative control of their music and this showed in the relaxed way they performed their mix of musical and popular numbers.
Jamie Lambert, Michael Auger, Matt Pagan and Thomas Redgrave all individually have very distinctive voices and we get to hear each one sing on their own, but when they sing together they blend exceptionally well and their close harmony arrangements bring a different slant to some well-known songs.
The five-piece band of local musicians, led by Edward Rugman, complemented the vocals and it was a treat to have live woodwind and string instruments as part of the backing.
This works especially well in the slower, pared back numbers where the quality of the harmonies really stands out.
The show finished with a crowd-pleasing Jersey Boys Medley that had their devoted fans – the ‘Collaborators’ – and the rest of the audience on their feet dancing and singing along, providing a great start to the Lytham Festival week.
