Canadian singer to perform at Garstang unplugged
Canadian singer Awna Teixeira is set to wow the audience at the next Garstang Unplugged show.
After joining the West Coast’s favourite street singers The Derby in 2001, Awna was part of the outfit’s first indie release called Cyborg Love Songs.
The group toured throughout Canada before Awna and other members formed alternative country band, The Red Eyed Rounders. In 2004, Awna started her solo career. That venture was cut short when she ran into Allison Russell of Po’girl. The two hit it off and made plans to collaborate.
Now 11 years later, Po’girl has travelled 15 different countries on four continents. They have played everywhere from Australia to festival stages in front of 20,000 people in Cameroon, Africa.
Awna plays and records with guitar, banjo, electric bass, gutbucket bass, ukulele, keys, accordion, glockenspiel, harmonica and percussion.
Awna will play the Kenlis Arms in Barnace on Thursday, March 19, at 8.30pm. Tickets, priced at £10, are available from www.garstangunplugged.com or on 01995 602795.
