After joining the West Coast’s favourite street singers The Derby in 2001, Awna was part of the outfit’s first indie release called Cyborg Love Songs.

The group toured throughout Canada before Awna and other members formed alternative country band, The Red Eyed Rounders. In 2004, Awna started her solo career. That venture was cut short when she ran into Allison Russell of Po’girl. The two hit it off and made plans to collaborate.
