Big Band and Swing is king for Five Star combo

Tony Bennett’s trombonist Michael Innes will appear with Five Star Swing in an eagerly-awaited big band show at the Lowther Pavilion, Lytham, on Sunday, October 27 (7.30pm).

The show promises a host of classic Big Band and Swing songs from artists such as Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller, as well as a Jools Holland style.

Simone sings and plays lead alto sax, having also performed with prestigious artists such as Paul Weller, John Williams, the Ivy Benson Show Band.

She also supplied a sax solo for the Paul Merton TV show Bandleader,

Chris also sings, plays trumpet and piano, and is well known in the jazz world for his arrangements and compositions, including plays on Jazz FM and BBC Radio’s Big Band.

His varied career includes performances on Top of the Pops, Breakfast TV with Herb Miller (Glenn Miller’s brother) and a solo performance on the Michael Caine film Silver Bears.
He said: “It’s great that there’s a strong resurgence in jazz and swing music, enjoyed by all generations, thanks to artists such as Robbie Williams, Jamie Cullum and Michael Buble.

“One of my favourite songs is Mr Bojangles by Sammy Davis Jr. I was brought up with this style, my father (Chris Smith Snr) playing trombone with Frank Sinatra across Europe.”
