160 live acts...all for the price of fish and chips

The two-day Chorley Live takes place early next month.

It is seen as a real showcase for Chorley’s burgeoning music scene.

Chorley Council has teamed up with the Creative Network to stage the event that will involve 160 live performances in more than 20 venues across the town centre.

Wristbands costing £5 – which get people into every venue over both nights – are already on sale. Under 12s get in free.

Coun Peter Wilson, deputy leader of Chorley Council, said: “It’s great to see that there are already a lot of people talking about and looking forward to Chorley Live and in the final few weeks we’ll be able to announce a lot more detail about what’s happening. I’m delighted that we’ve had such a great response from venues and there are a real wide variety of places for people to enjoy live entertainment from churches and cafes to restaurants and pubs.

“The event will really showcase what Chorley has to offer and I hope as many people as possible will get their wristbands early and support the community event.”

The list of confirmed venues is: Chorley Library; Lancastrian Suite, Town Hall; Prince of Wales; Leigh Arms/Station Hotel; The Railway (Friday only); Woodchats Coffee Shop; Pearsons; Last Orders; Chorley Little Theatre (Saturday only); Knitty Nora’s (Saturday only); St Laurence’s Church; Cosmopolitan restaurant; Ebb and Flo bookshop (Friday only); Rose and Crown; Café Deja-vu; White Hart; The Imperial; St George’s Church; Applejax; The George; The Royal Oak and Parmesan and Pepper.

The Chorley Live format will be the same concept as run in both Leyland and Penwortham by the Creative Network – but on a larger scale.

Nigel Stewart, of the Creative Network, who will be organising the acts, said it will bring a real community feel back into the town.

“We’ve had a brilliant response so far and we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the people wanting to take part,” he said.

“When we’ve been talking to people about the event a lot of people have said this is just what Chorley needs so I hope it will be well supported by local people.

“You can’t even get fish and chips for £2.50, so to have 160 live performances to choose from for £5 over two nights is great value – if you like it’ll be like Glastonbury without the mud.”

The event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday October 4 and 5, with live performances at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm at each venue.
