This is what you need to know about WandaVision, the new Marvel series on Disney+

A new trailer for spinoff Marvel show WandaVision has caused a stir amongst fans.

WandaVision marks the very first series from Marvel Studios to be available to stream exclusively on Disney+.

This is everything you need to know about the new series coming later this year.

What’s WandaVision about?

WandaVision is set to be a surreal spinoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe featuring Wanda Maximoff and Vision.

However, it appears that most details of the plot are still unknown.

It’s set to take place after Avengers: Endgame, a detail which in itself raises questions considering that Vision had been destroyed by Thanos after he claimed the last infinity stone from him.

Writer Jac Schaeffer described the series at D23 as “half classic sitcom and half full MCU spectacular”.

Fans have speculated that the series could be taking place inside Wanda’s mind - others say that it could be some alternative timeline.

At Comic-Con, Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda, told the audience that the series is very weird, and that viewers would find out the reason why Wanda is called the Scarlet Witch.

Who is in the cast?

Elizabeth Olsen (Sorry for Your Loss, Wind River) will return in her role as Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch.

Also returning is Paul Bettany (Manhunt: Unabomber, Uncle Frank) as Vision, although it's unclear how Vision is still alive. He died during the events of Avengers: Infinity War before the Thanos snap, and he wasn’t brought back to life in the sequel, Avengers: Endgame.

Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, If Beale Street Could Talk) has also been confirmed to star in the series, as the adult version of Monica Rambeau, who is the daughter of Maria in Captain Marvel.

Two more Marvel Cinematic Universe stars will also be appearing in WandaVision - Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, Always Be My Maybe) as Agent Jimmy Woo, and Kat Dennings (Dollface, Big Mouth) as Darcy Lewis, who was Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) assistant in the first two Thor films.

Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms, I Know This Much is True) will also star as a character called Agnes, although it hasn’t been revealed what her role is in the story.

Rumours have also circulated which say that Evan Peters (American Horror Story, Pose) has been added to the cast. Peters played Quicksilver in the X-Men films Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, however it’s unclear whether Peters will reprise his role as Quicksilver.

In the comics, Quicksilver is actually Wanda’s brother, however in the Marvel movies a different Quicksilver was introduced, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Tenet, Kick-Ass).

Is there a trailer?

Marvel dropped a trailer for the show on 20 September, and it appeared to leave fans puzzled.

The trailer appears to be in the style of a 1950s sitcom, in black and white and with a laughter track, with Wanda and Vision dressed in traditional 50s suit and dress.

We can see Wanda using her powers throughout the trailer as well, using them to complete household tasks like setting the table.

As the trailer goes on it changes to colour, and things start to get weird as the warped reality of the show starts to appear.

When is WandaVision released on Disney+?

The show was originally announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, and it was said that the show would be expected to drop on Disney+ in Spring 2021.

However, at the beginning of 2020, it was confirmed that WandaVison would actually make its way to TV screens much earlier.
