All lanes reopen after 'serious crash' forced section of M56 to close

Emergency services rushed to a "serious collision" on the M56 eastbound between junctions 14 (Chester services) and 12 (Liverpool Airport).
The crash occurred shortly after 5.30am this morning (May 18), forcing a section of the motorway to close.

Hide AdNorth West Motorway Police, Cheshire Police and North West Ambulance Service attended the scene, along with traffic officers.
Highways have confirmed The M56 eastbound has been cleared and all lanes have been reopened.
A spokesperson for Highways said: "The incident M56 eastbound J14 / Chester Services (Stanlow Helsby A5117) to J12 (Liverpool Airport Runcorn Widnes A557) is now clear and all lanes are open, thank you for your patience."
The westbound carriageway was also shut due to the incident, but was later reopened.

Hide AdA tweet from North West Motorway Police said: "Lane 3 has now been opened past the scene.
"There is still congestion in the area and we are grateful for your patience whilst this incident is ongoing."
A diversion route was put in place with road users exiting the M56 at junction 14 and following the solid diamond symbol on local road signs.
