Preston man handed 16-week community order for interfering with vehicles in Moor Lane

Ronald Salthouse, from Moor Lane, attended Preston Magistrates' Court on Monday (August 24) where he faced charges of vehicle interference .
He admitted to the offence, which involved cars parked close to his home in Moor Lane, and he has been issued with a 16-week community order.
He has also been ordered to adhere to a night time curfew.
What is 'interference with vehicles'?

Hide AdA person is guilty of the offence if he "interferes with a motor vehicle or trailer or with anything carried in or on a motor vehicle".
This includes:
(a) Theft of the motor vehicle or trailer or part of it;
(b) Theft of anything carried in or on the motor vehicle or trailer; and
(c) Taking and driving a vehicle away without consent
A person found guilty of the offence can ultimately be imprisoned for up to three months.
