Bomb disposal team rush to Lancaster street after 'suspicious package' found in vehicle

Police responded to reports a "suspicious package" had been found on the wheel of a vehicle in Ryelands Road at around 3.55pm yesterday (January 24).
A cordon was quickly put in place and nearby homes were evacuated while officers awaited the arrival of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Hide AdAt 11.35pm, nearly eight hours after police were first called to the scene, officers confirmed the package had been dealt with and the incident had been resolved.
"The suspect package has been removed and dealt with by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team," a spokesman said.
"Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding while the incident was ongoing."
The nature of the suspicious package has not yet been disclosed by police but it is believed the call was a hoax, according to eyewitness reports.
