More than 90 per cent of over 65s in Preston have had Covid jab

Approximately 93 per cent of people aged over 65 in the Greater Preston clinical commissioning group area had received their first jab for Coronavirus by February 21.
The news comes as the NHS begin offering vaccination appointments to the next cohort - those aged between 60 and 64 and anyone over the age of 16 with underlying health conditions.

Hide AdBut Covid-19 rates per 100,000 still remain the highest in Preston when compared with the rest of Lancashire, at 253.6.
NHS data shows 53,415 people in Greater Preston have received their first jab, with 33,014 of those aged 65 or over – equating to 93 per cent of the population in that age group.
Jane Scattergood, COVID-19 Vaccination Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System, said: “The response we have seen from local people in doing their bit to attend appointments and come forward to have the vaccine has been brilliant.
“To the small proportion of people who have been invited but not come forward yet, I would urge you to do so as quickly as possible. Vaccines are the best weapon we have in the fight against coronavirus, and local services are going to great lengths to ensure that local people can get this protection in a safe and convenient place."

Hide AdPrime Minister Boris Johnson said first jabs had now been offered to everyone in the top four vaccine priority groups – consisting of older care home residents, care home workers, people aged over 70, frontline health and social care workers and the clinically extremely vulnerable.
As part of the vaccine rollout, the NHS plan to have given the first dosage to everyone aged 50 and above by the end of April.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) today announced the following categories of people being vaccinated once all those aged 50 and above had been given their first dose.
All those aged 40-49 years are first, followed by those aged 30-39 and finally those over the age of 18.
