Twenty two wildlife enthusiasts are waiting in the wings to present their chosen subjects to the members and visitors of this flourishing Preston society.
Thirteen of those speakers will be making their maiden visit to us. Last season almost 200 individuals enjoyed the lectures on offer, and the strength of the approaching season promises to be an even more successful one.
It will be the remarkable 116th consecutive season for the group which comprises a combination of active field naturalists as well as many who claim to be merely armchair enthusiasts. All are welcomed equally.
The first four lectures are an indication of the diversity of the group's interests, with a talk about penguins in the Falkland Islands, a talk about the history of British mammals by a recognised world authority on the subject, Dr. Derek Yalden, formerly of Manchester University, a look at the life and colour in our northern coastal waters, with a representative of the Marine Conservation Society, and fourthly, a look at how birds and animals continue to adapt to a changing environment despite man's worst efforts.
The remainder of the season is as equally diverse.
Anyone wanting to know more about the society can telephone Steve Halliwell the Secretary, on 01772 705468, or by email at
Stephen.Halliwell@prestonsociety.co.uk.
A complete programme of events can be found on our website at
www.prestonsociety.co.uk.
Most of our meetings are held at St. Mary's Church Hall, Cop Lane, Penwortham, and you don't have to be a member to attend any of our lectures.
Visitors are most welcome £2 pay on the door.
