In Lancashire 50 people per week die as from the effects of a heart attack.
Many of these could be saved by The First Responders if more volunteers would come forward.
Two such generous people came from Garstang to Pilling W.I. 's March meetingto speak about their work and to demonstrate the equipment available.
Unconsciousness and lack of breathing are the signs of those in need of help and oxygen is the "magic medicine",
After the talk members were invited to practice the chest pounding technique and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the dummy which responders use for training purposes.
The Responders are not fully funded by the N.H.S. and some of the cost of running the service relies on contributions from the public.
The vote of thanks was given by President Maureen O'Reilly.
The competition for a first aid remedy was won by Lena Tooth,
The next meeting will be on May 22nd in the Fellowship Room of the Methodist Church when Mr. Bill Blackledge will give talk on "Gardening".
The competition will be for a Pot Plant.
