Fulwood Methodist Church in Watling St Road, Fulwood has been raising money for the last eight years to redevelop their premises in order to enable the church to offer more to the community.
A percentage of all monies raised from each fund raising event isdonated to another charity.

The Church rotates these charities – a local, national and international.

Our most recent one is Spire, a locally based charity providing support for people with learning difficulties.

The next one will be Sightsavers which is an international one providing help to people across the world who need their sight saving (hence the name).

In the past we have had various sponsored events - two fun runs around Moor Park in Preston.

A group of six ladies and one brave man walked the Coast to Coast long distance walk from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay. And some of our strong men and the Beaver leader took part in the Great North Run and two of our members canoed down a section of the Lancaster Canal.

This year we are organising a sponsored walk along the Lancaster Canal. There will be four walks of varying lengths: three mile, five mile, seven mile and ten miles.

They will have a staggered start and will all finish at Haslam Park in Ashton for refreshments.

It is not a race and every walker will receive a certificate.

The Church minibus will drop walkers off at their chosen starts.

The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all intend to take part as well as members of the church congregation.

The oldest person is likely to be 70 plus and the youngest about six but until all the registration forms are in we will not know exactly.

The longest walk will start at Guy's restaurant at Bilsborrow, the seven mile at Moor Side Bridge, the five mile Blackleach Bridge and the shortest walk from the Hand and Dagger pub near Salwick.

We are hoping for a fine day, that the walkers receive a lot of sponsors and that everyone enjoys themselves.

The Lancaster Canal is very attractive with pleasant views across the countryside and wild flowers and bird life in abundance. We spotted a cormorant swimming and diving on our practice walk.

On Saturday May 16 from 12.00 to 2.00pm we shall be holding a Spring Plant Sale in the Church Hall at Watling St Road.

A wide range of bedding plants, tubs and hanging baskets and plants will be on sale.

Phil Dunnett from Ribblesdale Nurseries in Woodplumpton will be there with some perennials to sell and he is always ready to give advice.
