Tonight we were very highly entertained by the Reverend Alan Reid, ex vicar of Warton.
We sat for over an hour, our side aching with laughter, while Frank told us his funny stories and tales of his life as the curator of Briarfield, and the vicar of Warton and Whalley.
He remembered coming to the opening of Freckleton Village Memorial Hall and said it was lovely coming back.
Alan was a ray of sunshine to us all after a very rainy day.
The Freckleton Horticultural Show will be held at the village hall on Saturday, 13th September 2008 and we were asked to make or bake an item to enter.
Four of our members are through to the final of the WI Bowls Competition which will be held on 7th September 2008 at Hambleton. They are Pat Wilson & Betty Bowden and Dorothy Rumens and Ruby Currell. We wish them well.
Friends Re-United : During a chat over a meal when we visited Alston Hall last month, two of our members, Olive Law and Joyce Wright, found that they were long lost friends who had known each other over 60 years ago.
They lived near each other in Moss Side, Manchester, went to school together and both were evacuated to Lytham during the war.
They married within months of each other and then lost contact when Joyce moved away.
Olive and Joyce live near each other in Freckleton but didn't know this and they were very emotional when we presented them with flowers and they posed for photographs.
Competition: A pen
Winner: June Chadwick
Next month, on September 9, our speaker is Barbara Charlson who will be giving us a talk and demonstration on "Seasonal Flower Arranging" and the competition will be for a bud vase.
This will be held at the Village Hall, School Lane, Freckleton.
Please come along, you will be made very welcome.
