June saw members of Broughton WI enjoying glimpses of life across different parts of the world.
The Homecraft section thoroughly enjoyed a demonstration of the Remoski cookers from Czechoslovakia and were very impressed with the wide variety of very tasty dishes produced very economically with these table top cookers.
The countryside section explored a little more of our own county with a walk in the area of Darwen Tower. Their next walk will take them to the north of the county, to Beetham.
The main meeting was an open meeting with visitors including several gentlemen tempted by a trip across the USA by Harley Davidson by Mr Norman Harris.
What a wonderful trip this proved to be. Following a meeting at Milwaukee of several thousand bikers Norman then set off on his own to cross America to San Francisco and then back to the East Coast, a journey of nearly 10,000 miles.
It was a journey of extremes, from below sea level in Death Valley, to over 7,000 ft in the mountains where his engine struggled to work, from temperatures of over 100oF in the desert to finding his bike covered in snow one morning; from the crowds and hustle of Las Vegas to the emptiness of Route 66, from small towns to the city of San Francisco. His photographs were superb, as was his account of the journey.
Visitors are welcome to our next meeting 16th July.7.30pm Broughton Club Hall, Whittingham Lane. Contact 01772 774228/862113 for further details.
