Churchtown and District Children’s Festival Queen elect Isobel Wilkinson is on the countdown to her big day.

The annual festival returns on Saturday May 27 and the procession will leave Kirkland Memorial Hall field to St Helen’s Church where Rev Andrew Wilkinson will give a short service before returning to the field for his daughter Isobel’s crowning.

The 11-year-old said she is looking forward to proudly representing the village.

Festival organisers say preparations are well under way for the event, which will this year have a 1970’s theme.

“There is loads of scope in 70’s fashion - Think punk, ABBA, glam rock, The carpenters the list goes on. Grab yourself some flares & join in.”

The festival will be followed with a disco in the evening with a fish and chip supper.
