A car service manager swapped horsepower for pedal power embarking on a 300 mile cycle mission to raise money for Alzheimer sufferers.

Barry Griffiths who has worked at Greenacre Honda in Clitheroe for 20 years completed the mammoth London to Paris bike ride for the Alzheimer’s Society after his mother was diagnosed with the disease.

Barry said: “Mum’s diagnosis was a big shock to the family. I found myself researching the condition through the Alzheimer’s Society website.

“I was really unaware of this serious condition and its effects. I felt that I needed to do something to spread awareness and to help raise funds for the charity.

“That’s when I came across the London to Paris bike ride and decided to take on the challenge myself.”

Barry with the support of family and friends has already beat his target of £1,500, raising £2115 so far.

He is currently on a break in Spain, recovering from the four-day, 344 mile, gruelling bike ride.

Paul Rushton and Graeme Edmondson, joint managing directors at Greenacre Honda, added: “We are really proud of Barry and the task he has set himself.

“He’s certainly not gone in to this half-heartedly and this is testimony to his character – spirited and dedicated.

“Being a family-friendly firm, we want to support Barry, and indeed his family, as much as we can. The entire Honda team at Clitheroe was rooting for his success.”
