Developers given planning permission to convert the old Post Office in Preston city centre have gone back to the council with alterations to the original plans. Hotel group
Signature Living want to change the layout of some internal partitions and doors, develop part of the roof space, add some roof lighting and make it 66 rooms instead of 65.
When will it happen?
The changes were only submitted to the Town Hall just over a week ago. Signature Living will require Listed Building Consent for the alterations because the Post Office building, opened in 1903, is Grade II. The next planning committee meeting is on Thursday, but a decision may have to wait until the next one on April 27. If approved, work could begin within months.
What happens now?
Subject to approval by councillors, the amended plans will bring new life to a key city centre building which has been largely disused since it ceased trading in 2005. The distinctive Post Office, which faces out on to the war memorial and Flag Market, was designed by Henry Tanner and opened in 1903, replacing one on Fishergate.
What is planned?
A four-star boutique hotel with 66 rooms. The building will also have a spa with pool, treatment rooms and saunas, a 170 cover licensed restaurant/bar and a wedding function space.
