An out-of-control Mercedes mounted a pavement and hit a terraced house – missing a dog walker by seconds.

The Mercedes, driven by a man in his 50s, was towing a trailer in School Lane, Bamber Bridge, when it left the road at around 10.20am today, officials said.

CCTV footage from the nearby School Lane Supersaver shop shows the car missed a passerby by a matter of seconds, a spokesman for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

“A man with a trailer was going to a car boot sale and was travelling down School Lane when he lost control, mounted the pavement, damaged a parked car, and hit the wall of a terraced house,” he said.

“He wasn’t going too fast and he wasn’t hurt, but we were concerned about a lintel beside the front door that was taken out.

“We had to make sure it was safe.

“Thirty seconds earlier a man walked past with his dog so it could have been worse, but luckily it wasn’t.”
