What’s happening?

Work is ongoing to create a new roundabout on Eastway in Fulwood, to serve a new housing development
Temporary traffic lights are in place in both directions where the work is under way at the new roundabout, on Eastway between the Ibis/ Phantom Winger Roundabout and the D’Urton Lane Roundabout.

Why is it happening?

The work is connected to the development of a new Story Homes housing estate off Eastway. It includes the construction of a path and cycleway along part of Eastway between Longfield and the A6. It also includes a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing and roundabout. The closure of nearby D’Urton Lane to through-traffic will be permanent. Once the bypass opens, a new junction will be created to access D’Urton Lane via the new road.

When will it be finished?

Work began in October, and is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
During the works, a stretch of Eastway has been closed at times.
A weekend closure was put off until the following weekend in February, because of bad weather, and saw the closure of the section between the Ibis/ Phantom Winger Roundabout and the D’Urton Lane Roundabout.
A diversion was in place along Sharoe Green Lane.

Reaction:

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We’re aware that this work has caused some delays along Eastway and we’re doing what we can to keep this to a minimum. “The work includes a new roundabout, a new footway/cycle lane along Eastway between Longfield and the A6, and new traffic signal-controlled pedestrian and cycle crossings across Eastway.
“If people are travelling in this area, please allow more travel time while this work is taking place.”
