The outgoing Mayor of Preston, Coun Margaret McManus, has celebrated a “fantastic” year in civic office at a special service.
A ceremony was held at Preston Minster, and Coun McManus described her year as mayor as “the biggest privilege anyone could have”.
She said: “I was born in Preston, I went to school in Preston, I’ve worked in Preston, my children are Prestonian.
“To represent where we live, where we were born, is absolutely fantastic. It’s an honour and a privilege.”
She said highlights of her year as mayor included a march from the King’s Royal Hussars to mark their 300th anniversary, visits to St Catherine’s Hospice, and seeing the work of Caritas Care.
She said: “I enjoyed school and college visits – I’ve met children at primary school and I’ve met UCLan students.
“It’s been fantastic and I wish John (Collins) all the best.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed it.”
