‘Peggy’ the cardboard cut-out went walkabout from the Black Horse on Friargate, Preston, a week ago - and pub bosses posted a desperate plea for her return on Twitter.

Now the leggy lady has been found safe and well - along with a cheeky letter explaining where she has been since Good Friday.

The note says: “On Good Friday I spent the evening with some very nice gentlemen. We ended up at the Masonic Hall where I enjoyed dancing to some Northern Soul tunes.

“On Saturday I was invited to a 50th birthday party in Darwen.

“I think I may have had a few too many Proseccos as I ended up breaking my arm... I spent the rest of the week convalescing in someone’s conservatory.”

The typed note ends with an apology to bar staff who had appealed for her safe return. The Black Horse tweeted: “Peggy just been dropped off at the pub with a letter explaining where she’s been. Can I say a big thank you for everyone’s help her home.”
