A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 13-year-old girl in a Bamber Bridge park in Preston.

The 32-year-old was arrested at an address in Kent on Tuesday, June 21 after a report that a teenage girl had been sexually assaulted in Withy Grove Park.

Lancashire Police officers launched an investigation after they were called at around 2.30pm on Friday, June 17 following a report a 13-year-old girl had been attacked at some time during the day on Thursday, June 16.

Around the time of the incident, neighbours reported scenes of crime officers in the park and an area near a tree cordoned off.

One resident also said there had been a police presence at the scene all night.

The man is now in police custody and the girl is being supported by specially trained officers.
