County force to be investigated over fatal crash

Lancashire Police is to be investigated by the IPCC over a collision in which a man died.

The crash happened around 4.30 this morning, when a Renault Clio was travelling along Buncer Lane in Blackburn.

A police vehicle signalled for the Clio to stop, but a short distance later, the Clio was involved in a collision with a post and wall.

The driver, a 24-year-old man from Blackburn, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and it has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as a matter of routine.

Chief Inspector Jon Bullas of Blackburn Police said: “This is a tragic incident and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway.

“Our thoughts and condolences are very much with the family of the man who has sadly died at this time.”
