The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society can trace its roots back to 1767 and runs the oldest Agricultural Show in the country.
This year, 2006, the Royal Lancashire Agricultural show is again at Salesbury Hall. We give special thanks to Mr Colin Mustoe, President, who is housing the Show on the grounds of Salesbury Hall.
The Lancashire fells that surround the Ribble Valley, support the rugged sheep that are bred for their meat and wool.
Sheep Dog Trials have been a popular attraction to the show for many years and the new site will give spectators a wonderful view of the handlers and their dogs competing for the coveted prizes, while the proximity to the River Ribble has lent itself to the introduction of a new Piscatorial Section.
Everything and anything you want to know about fishing and all that goes with it is available together with expert advice and well known personalities of the sport.
There is plenty of room for the very popular Countryside Section where visitors can see the many crafts and skills that go into maintaining both the rural landscape and the country way of life.
The Royal Lancashire Show's Light Horse section attracts nearly 2000 entries and both the ridden and in-hand classes draw considerable interest from spectators as they try to identify the many different breeds of native ponies that take part.
The Royal Lancashire Show has always prided itself on its close ties with Agriculture and has set itself out to offer the industry an excellent shop window.
However, there is much more to a show than the animals, and set amidst such scenic beauty, with the excellent main ring entertainment, hundreds of trade stands and catering to suit all tastes.
Without doubt, the Royal Lancashire Show offers an excellent day out for all the family.
