Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has come under fire from some Reds fans – after he appeared to hand over two tickets for their in-demand clash with Real Madrid to cockney comic turned actor Russell Brand.
The Reds’ centre-half was contacted on Twitter by the shaggy-haired celebrity asking for two tickets to the Champions League clash with the Spanish giants at Old Trafford next Tuesday.
He promised two tickets for a Comic Relief event in return.
Ferdinand responded by asking West Ham fan Brand if he still needed the tickets and whether he was staying in Manchester following the game.
Brand then said that he was, with a pal who is a United fan from Manchester, and added that he would make a donation to a charity of Ferdinand’s choice.
The exchange prompted a furious response on the social networking site from some Reds who were unable to get a ticket for the sell-out match.
One, Anthony Shawcross, tweeted: “I know United supporters who have been to every game and can’t get a ticket for that. Do the right thing.”
Another, Manchester’s Red Army, added: “Absolute whopper you are mate. Support West Ham and you want tickets for United vs Madrid? Get gone.”
