A businesswoman is set to become a star of the small screen as she shares the secrets of her trade.
Cake decorator Ruth Potts will appear as a guest presenter tomorrow on television shopping channel Create And Craft.
She will demonstrate new and innovative cake decorating equipment and techniques in two one-hour live shows.
Ruth, who runs Cakes By Ruth cake making shop in Chorley, said: “The opportunity to work on live TV was too good to turn down, and hopefully it will encourage more people to take up cake decorating once they see what fantastic results can be achieved with a little practice.”
Ruth has already taken part in a screen test and says she feels “nervous” about the show.
But if it goes well, she could soon become a regular face on television.
Ruth said: “If the product sells well, they are hoping I will be on air every six weeks.”
Ruth previously worked as a primary school teacher, but decided to turn cake making into a business after her creations were widely praised by family and friends. She opened her shop, on St George’s Street, just a few months ago to combine her love of cake decorating and teaching.
Ruth said: “I started off making birthday cakes for my children, but then friends and family asked if I’d decorate cakes for them and it just snowballed.
“So I decided to create Cakes By Ruth in 2010 and opened the shop in September.
“The shop has been really well received and is going from strength to strength.”
Ruth has invested in a professional kitchen at the shop for baking and designing celebration cakes .
She has also created a special area where she can hold cake decorating classes for students of all ages and abilities.
It is not just her business enjoying success. Ruth won gold at the Cake International competition last year, which was visited by food writer and TV presenter Mary Berry.
Ruth will appear on television at 11am and 4pm tomorrow.
The Create And Craft channel can be found on Sky 671, Freeview 36, Virgin 748 and Freesat 813.
