Heritage Opera brings La Traviata to Lancaster Grand Theatre this Wednesday.
For their latest tour of Verdi’s tragedy, the cast includes Sarah Helsby Hughes as Violetta, (who performed the role to acclaim in the original Heritage production five years ago), Nicholas Sales as her lover Alfredo, and Tom McVeigh as Giorgio Germont.
It’s a completely new production, with sumptuous costumes and set created for this tour, and is accompanied by a seven-piece orchestral ensemble.
Heritage Opera started in Leyland in 2006 by touring small historic venues. Since then it has developed into an ‘artistic force to be reckoned with’ according to Opera Magazine, staging more than 25 productions in a wide range of periods, styles and genres, in venues around the country.
The highly-talented professional singers have appeared in principal roles at opera houses such as Glyndebourne, Scottish Opera, the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, La Fenice, WNO and Opera North.
Most have a link with Northern England, and the company is still based and rehearses in the North West.
La Traviata is sung in Italian with English subtitles displayed on stage.
