Chorley commedian Dave Spikey has finalised his pre-tour warm-up, er, tour with a date in his home town.

He stars at two festivals this summer – Bollington Festival on May 22 and Bognor Comedy Festival on June 7.

He then hits the road with his Punchlines show.

It is derived from “Punch indicating that the Line should come as a surprise or shock”, suggesting that few Punchlines are inherently funny out of context.

There is another school of thought that Dave ascribes to is that the opposite can be true.

In this new show he will present evidence to support this. He quotes “It’s not my dog” and “That’s my Thermos flask”.

“Then of course there’s Nuns. Nuns in baths, Nuns on bikes & Prince Charles wearing a fox hat”.

Dave will argue that you don’t always need a Punchline for a joke to be hilarious and suggests that if you doubt him, you should ask the bloke with the big orange head.

He will preview the show at Chorley Little Theatre on September 25. His tour takes in various venues across the north west: Darwen Library Theatre on October 3, Middleton Arena on October 24, Lytham Lowther on November 6, Lancaster Grand on November 7, Bolton Octagon on November 8, Wigan Rose on November 14, Warrington Parr Hall on November 15, before heading over the border into Yorkshire to the Skipton Mart Theatre on November 21.

Tickets: £15 from Malcolm’s Musicland 01257 264362.
