From hip-hop pioneers to Motown legends, techno giants to dance icons this year’s Beat-herder Festival is shaping up to be among the best yet, reports NICK LAKIN
Beat-herder Festival has announced its second wave of artists – adding to an already eclectic line-up celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2015.
Founding fathers of hip-hop The Sugarhill Gang and The Furious Five, will play, along with techno pioneer Nightmares on Wax, Radio 1 favourite Mistajam, Basement Jaxx, Parov Stellar Band and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Hundreds of other acts are also confirmed for the three day event in the Ribble Valley between July 3 - 5.
Bentham six piece rave/punk/disco unit Dohnut have also been confirmed, along with Manchester-based Lancaster favourites Jeremiah Ferrari.
John from the band said: “Beat-Herder is, as far as Dohnut are concerned , the best Festival in the UK.
“Run by a dedicated handful of people, BH has in its 10-year life become the best place , bar none, to hear the sounds of the underground.

“Totally independent and sponsor free Beat Herder is a breath of fresh air in a mass produced corporate world.”
Dohnut have recently released a new music video and have spent the last two months writing and recording and will have new material out by May to promote their Summer activities.
The band also performs at this weekend’s Dock of the Bay Festival in Glasson Dock, kicking off on Saturday, April 4 on Shabby Meadow in the village.
Over the last decade, Beat-Herder has come to be known for its unrivalled attention to detail when building the site.
Last year’s new additions included a swimming pool in the woods, housed in a Scandinavian-style wooden cabin, complete with changing rooms and lifeguards and The Ring, a huge earth mound with a Stonehenge-esque entrance.
This year Beat-Herder was crowned winner of the Extra Festival Activity Award at the UK Festival Awards.
Other acts announced include Dub Pistols, Freestylers, The Lancashire Hotpots, Mr Scruff, Paul Hartnoll of Orbital as 8:58 and Sam & The Womp.
