Kylie Minogue kicked off her Kiss Me Once tour in the North West on Wednesday night and long-time fan RACHEL HURST was on hand to see the Queen of Pop from Down Under for the very first time
After a 25 year gap Kylie Minogue returned to Liverpool to kick off her Kiss Me Once World Tour.
Appearing on stage stretched across a giant pair of pulsating red lips the diminutive star set the tone for the evening, kicking off with track, ‘Les Sex’ from her current album and, though she appeared somewhat nervous for a seasoned entertainer, Kylie soon eased into proceedings, transporting the audience to a futuristic French burlesque club for the next few songs.
Whipping the crowd – many of who Kylie acknowledged had been with her “a lifetime” – through a hitlist including ‘On A Night Like This’, ‘Slow’ ‘Wow’ and a Daft Punk-esque ‘Spinning Around’, it was ‘Your Disco Needs You’ that really helped the Aussie call to arms her legion of fans like a miniature discoball-clad general.
But it was the cartoon-pink pin-up section of the show that took us on a Step Back In Time to the Stock Aitkin and Waterman days that really stood out.
And it was the moment Kylie stepped into a giant bath to sing ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ that really left me wanting to high-five my five-year-old self.
But it was adults-only for a sultry and uber sexy nod to her former lover, Michael Hutchence , as Kylie donned a PVC rainmac for a rendition of the INXS classic, ‘Need You Tonight’ before stripping off to a diamond-encrusted leotard beneath ; just one of the costumes by Dolce & Gabbana, Marchesa, Julien Macdonald and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Lifelong fan, Paul St German, who had met Kylie to show off his tattoo of her was given a rendition of ‘Especially For You’ and even asked on stage before she left with an encore of ‘Into The Blue’.
Kiss her once? Try over and over!
