Local musicians will be entertaining the crowds at Eat to the Beat in Coronation Park, Ormskirk, this Sunday from midday to 4pm.

Eat to the Beat incorporates The Big Lunch which is a national event organised by the Eden Project.

Musical entertainment will include performances from the Twin Planets Rock Band, Erin Howard, and Maghull Parish Handbell Ringers and there will also be dance displays.

People can cheer along dogs as they take on the agility course and children can meet Shetland ponies, and there will also be a climbing wall, musical crafts and story-telling for the children.

Food treats on the day include a barbecue, cream teas, cupcakes and sweets/confectionery.

A week later, on Saturday, June 7, visitors to Beacon Country Park can join the useful and edible plant walk, starting at 10am.

This is a gentle two-mile stroll with local experts and takes a closer look at some of the useful, edible and truly fascinating plants that grow in our countryside.

All children under 16 need adult supervision. This event is free and booking is not required.

The following day, volunteers can help the rangers tackle the problem with Himalayan Balsam, a plant that is choking out our native flora, at our balsam bashing event.

People taking part should meet at the lay-by opposite Fairy Glen on the A5209, Appley Bridge, at 10am.

The following weekend it’s kite-flying weekend at Beacon Country Park.

The rangers run the two-day event in conjunction with the Northern Kite Group and there will be displays of all sorts of kites, altitude sprints and formation flying between 11am and 4pm on both days.

Finally, if cheering on Andy Murray at Wimbledon makes you want to give tennis a try then head to the Ormskirk Tennis Festival on Sunday, June 29, between 11am and 5pm. Other activities include a bouncy castle, tennis ball treasure hunt and making tennis ball bird feeders.

As well as these events the regular health walks take place every week.

On Tuesdays the walks start from Richmond Park bowling pavilion, Burscough, at 10am, and on Wednesdays they start from Coronation Park bowling pavilion, Ormskirk, at 1pm. No bookings required! For more information, please call 01695 555804.
