A group of friends from Preston have made it to the semi-finals of a national competition and need your help to cross the finish line.

Sarah Aitchison from Preston, along with her friends, Maris, Marie and Celanie, will appear on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ show next Tuesday morning as one of the semi-finalists, chosen from 2,000 entries, in the Model Mates competition.

Sarah, 45, said: “A few weeks ago my best friend Maris, rang to suggest I enter a competition about friendship.

“The winning prize was a holiday and all we had to do was write a little about our friendship and send a photo.

“But when I actually entered I realised the winning friends are to model wear swimwear for lingerie and swimwear brand, Curvy Kate which was found very amusing as we aren’t exactly model ages or certainly not model figures.”

The group of friends who live in Longton, Penwortham and Tarleton, met when they were all going through a particularly difficult time.

Sarah said: “I’ve known Maris for 21 years, and Marie and Cel have known each other since their early twenties and the four of us originally met whilst trying to save our marriages, as we were all were having difficult times.

“Emotionally raw, we ended up very quickly sharing our deepest and darkest thoughts and becoming very close.”

“In the last eight years, two of us have gone through divorce, one of us lost a son and one of us separated though after five years has now reconciled and is happily ‘consciously coupled’ again,

“We’ve shared children growing up, leaving home, celebrating daughters weddings...Teenagers causing us to tear our hair out.”

The quartet, who are aged between 45 and 60, enjoy spending time laughing, taking part in a ‘flash mob’ at Trafford Park, going to 1940’s army adventures, drinking too much proscecco, dressing up, dancing, and just having fun.

Sarah said: “Between us we have eight daughters and we thought it would be good for them to have positive role models to show that you can look good at any age and it really doesn’t matter what shape or size you are, or if you have wrinkles - laughter lines of course!

“We have the confidence because of our friendship to do anything.”

The results of a photoshoot they did with a celebrity photographer in London will be revealed on Tuesday on the Lorraine show when the number to vote for the group will be revealed.
