A LANCASHIRE actress is following in the footsteps of one of her students after securing a part on Britain’s most famous street.
Melanie Ash, 39, from Ashton, Preston, is perhaps best known for her role as Colleen King in Emmerdale.
But now she’ll take a trip to the other side of the Pennines to star in an episode of Coronation Street, where her former pupil, Tisha Merry, is playing the part of Steph Britton.
Melanie will be featuring in a upcoming storyline on the cobbles playing the character of Sue.
After a varied career on screen, Mel is very excited at long last to be appearing in her favourite soap.
She said: “I am so excited to have landed the job on Corrie. It’s only one episode at the moment, but it’s a lovely part, and is part of a story line that tackles the dreadful reality of living in poverty in the UK at the moment. Corrie has always been my favourite TV show and I first attended a casting 20 years ago. I had given up on ever getting my feet on the cobbles, but here I am!”
Mel will also soon be featuring in an upcoming episode of Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks, as a social worker. She said: “Two acting jobs on soaps in two days – the future is suddenly looking very bright for me!
“My son is also very proud– he’s told all his mates. It’ll be nice for him to see his mum on the box in the front room.”
Melanie taught Tisha at her drama school, Meladrama, when Tisha joined in 2008.
After a short episode run, Tisha was so popular with the audience and the cast she has now returned as a regular on the cobbles. She is also the patron of Meladrama, supporting student performances and delivering master classes.
