Actor heading to America for Doctor Who event

Peter Purves

Peter Purves

New Longton actor and TV presenter Peter Purves is to fly out to America next month to join a celebration of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary.

The 73-year-old is best known for his extensive work on the classic children’s TV series Blue Peter.

But he previously starred in early episodes of the science fiction drama as Steven Taylor, a companion of the first Doctor, William Hartnell.

Peter played a space pilot from Earth in the future and appeared in 45 episodes in the mid-1960s.

He will appear at Gallifrey One, an annual convention for fans of the show held every February in Los Angeles at the LAX Marriott hotel.

He will be joined by the likes of Arthur Darvill, who played the current Doctor Matt Smith’s companion Rory Williams, and Freema Agyeman, better known as Martha Jones, a companion to David Tennant’s tenth Doctor.
